A Common Core Writing Specialist understands the particular skills and proficiencies contained in Common Core writing standards and designs or modifies instructional activities in order to teach those skills to students.

To earn the Common Core Writing Specialist badge, a teacher must:

• Share a lesson and one piece of annotated student work that models how to teach a specific Common Core writing standard; the student work should show evidence of proficiency, or strong movement towards proficiency, in the targeted standard.
• Discuss the lesson and student work with a WBA History Educator.

Why? Teachers at all stages of their careers must attain a thorough command of the Common Core standards and develop curriculum that helps students master the reading skills required for career and college readiness.
